Bruton, Somerset Beggars Bush 1785
The earliest date is from deeds “relating to land including Beggar’s Bush or Hutchew’s Paddock and Hill Close, between Carter’s and Trendell Lane, . . . in the manor and parish of Bruton”.
F W Weaver, in Somerset & Dorset Notes & Queries (vol. II p.221 173) wrote “There is a place called Beggars Bush in the parish of Bruton; it now consists mainly of allotments, and is situated on the road leading from Greenscombe Farm in the parish of Milton Clevedon to Bruton”. He goes on to describe it as lying at the bottom of Creech Hill, near a “still flourishing” badger sett.
This is north of Bruton, distinct from the sites in Castle Cary and Evercreech nearby.
